Notes: Another road trip through the Americana psyche searching out the feral children of Hank Williams, Kitty Wells and Ennio Morricone. Bring up the volume slowly, wait a half second, switch on the turntable and feel the sound's weight and follow the lyric. New laws make old things go away, but vintage music thrives on Route 78 West. The dusty old tunes give birth to fresh audio. Acoustic riffs drifting out of limping tour van windows in the night on a Denver to Seattle nonstop. I wanna know the exit number where that song first spilled over a hayfield and entered the atmosphere. Give me the details of a headache reprieving greasy eggs'n coffee served by a luscious Wyoming waitress dot on the map neon diner. She can't wait to escape to Missoula. What I need is more musical novels devised in dirty white culdesac shacks and urban bungalow basements. I hear the click-it-tee-clack 60 mph freight train percussion dream circulate with my swirling creek-side sleep and wonder how it found me.

You are tuned to 1190 on the AM dial. If you read this far then it's the right place for you. Route 78 West is an alternative to the alternative broadcasting in a format-less format. We are a fluid outfit, inquisitive about the effect of roots music on the creation of future sound. You can easily spot us in dank clubs edging the stage and slugging down with the youngsters.

Todays hot trak was Freight Train Blues by Roy Acuff. My playlist as of today is Big Business, Shellac and Frank Smith.

Ukulele Loki's Gadabout Orchestra August 27th at the Fox. Magnolia Electric Co August 28th at the Bluebird. The Apples In Stereo at the Bluebird on August 31st.
