The annual right of spring pledge drive offered Alt-Country, old time Westerns, Beatnik 78's and perky incentives in trade for dollars. An early turntable skip had Uncle Jeff coin the phrase, "1190 needle exchange program." Listeners called from near, far and online to support the cause. Hippies and cowboys put aside their differences to sustain the alt-sound.

Coner and Ed (Under The Mattress) took a breather from answering the phones to relay the story of Hasil Adkins who, as a boy, heard Hank Williams on the radio and thought he was singing and playing all the instruments in the song. He learned drums and guitar to eventually become the greatest one man band. Adkins lived in a shack and could play thousands of songs from memory. He sent copies of all his 45's to the presidents and supposedly got a response from Richard Nixon.
