Notes:

Tonight's show focused more on alternative while including some great oldies and rare recordings. Traks from the new CDs "Dents and Shells," by Richard Buckner and The Sadies' "Favourite Colours," flowed well with Japan Cakes, Hayden, et cetera. Lingering symptoms of the recent Jesse Sykes performance were apparent and proof of a great performance. Take my word for it, I was there.

Uncle Jeff was in an unusually quiet inclination and admitted to playing what satisfied his state of mind. I equaled his condition and enjoyed his tendency. Scribbled notes indicated Jeff's play list had been planned with care. At one point he reminisced about the end to all night 78 rpm search-a-thons at "The Catholic Girls Compound" with Eric Allen. The compound has been forcibly vacated.

By the first break Ukulele Loki arrived. During sets Loki described all the events of his week which included opening a yahoogroups.com calendar for listeners to post upcoming shows. If you want to access the calendar use the group name Route78West.

My "hot pick" of the show was the rare recording of "Jig Saw Puzzle" by the Stones with Mick Taylor on slide guitar. This loose and free arrangement of Jaggar's bluesy vocals mingling with a distantly coarse slide guitar and interwoven piano riffs make this version superior to the 1968 track on Beggars Banquet. The lyrics are quite good also.

As of now I am still pursuing a Red Cloud show and I think it could be this Saturday's CD release party at the Larimer Lounge. I don't know much about this band except songs I've heard and that's enough to get me out to see them. You ought to ditto.

Toward the show's end it was a toss up between "Instrumental With Mellotron" or "Daddy's Cup," which ultimately lost this evenings final race. No particular reason, "Mellotron" was just a better fit this time.

Route 78 West will be hosting Tin Pan Americana at Boulder's Trilogy on October 21st at 8 p.m. The show features Ukulele Loki, Halden Wofford & The High Beams, Gregory Alan Isakov and Uncle Jeff scratching 78s and DJing. Dress vintage for drink specials. Ages 21+.
